However, while high-end spatial software systems have offered rich feature sets for a number of years, entry-level spatial information software programs have provided limited functionality Business Solution: Adelaide company Mapping and Beyond has developed GeoSmartimage, a product that dramatically extends the functionality of popular desktop spatial software packages, ArcView and MapInfo, which dominate as much as 90 per cent of the sub-$3000 spatial software market. The software adds functionality such as image registration and manipulation and image geo-coding - normally found only in high-end workstation programs or specialist image processing software - at a fraction of that cost. GeoSmartimage seamlessly integrates with ArcView or MapInfo to provide features including: Image registration also know as georeferencing or georegistering Mosaicing - the joining of two or more images into a single image Clipping - the cutting out of portions of an image And other image manipulation tools such as re-sampling, smoothing, sharpening and converting from one format to another. Market Opportunity: Mapping and Beyond aims to deliver GeoSmartimage to a large proportion of the 600,000-user market for ArcView and MapInfo, in North America, Europe and Asia. Within one week of releasing GeoSmartimage, the company has sold dozens of licences to organisations including the Land and Water Conservation Department of New South Wales, the City of Charles Sturt and at the South Australian Institute of TAFE. Playford Services: Playford Centre is supporting Mapping and Beyond with working capital to apply dedicated programmers to build new generation products. Playford is also assisting the company with capital to market these products both internationally and nationally. This includes marketing and sales personnel, marketing and product demonstration materials, attendance at international trade fairs and travel expenses. Mapping and Beyond will embark on an ISO 9000 certification program, which will also be funded by Playford Centre.
